Undergraduate Program
Degree: B.A./B.S. in Environmental and Sustainability Studies

Explore human-nature relationships across time and culture and
at varied levels of environmental scale. This well-rounded
approach includes the natural sciences, social and health
sciences, and the humanities and fine arts.

Develop a clear understanding of environmental systems and the
consequences of human-environment interactions with an early
grounding in natural and physical sciences. The curriculum also
visits societal impacts on the environment, policy and decisionmaking,
ethics, and historical approaches to the humanenvironment
relationship. This interdisciplinary program is
unique in its emphasis on policy decisions regarding our
environment.

The interdisciplinary approach provides a myriad of
opportunities and future plans may include a career path or
graduate program in urban planning, public administration,
business, science, or law. Consider a double major in a
complementary field in order to further deepen your knowledge.
Take advantage of access to a variety of faculty to tailor your
own college experience. Be sure to consult with an advisor in the
complementary program in order to plan appropriately.

Special Opportunities
Consider arranging research opportunities for credit with
individual faculty. Internships or senior seminars also serve as
great capstone experiences. These opportunities, plus servicelearning
courses, allow for close collaboration with faculty,
fellow students, and community organizations.
Each summer the Environmental and Sustainability Studies
Program offers Study Abroad in Costa Rica for six upperdivision
